Duke Dumont ends performance after being spat on and thrown drinks at
Duke Dumont encountered some shameless disrespect during his performance from Edmonton’s Union Hall last night. During his set, Dumont was reportedly spat on and thrown drinks at by intoxicated attendees in the upper balcony. The ongoing actions were enough to compel Dumont to stop the music entirely and leave the performance, but not before taking the mic to express his frustration: “I don’t get paid enough to get spat on.”
The British house maven apologized profusely upon leaving the set, but had clearly had enough, even challenging his alleged heckler before leaving: “If you’re brave enough, come the f*ck down to the stage. If you’re mad enough to spit, you’re mad enough to come right up here.”
It’s a regrettable turn of events — especially for someone as revered in the house world as Duke Dumont, who has previously proffered such international mega-hits as “The Giver” and “Need U (100%).” Ultimately, this kind of disrespect has no place in dance music. Not only did these fans ruin Dumont’s night, but they sabotaged the entire show for everyone else in attendance.
Watch the scene transpire below, with Dumont’s reaction beginning at 50 seconds in.
