It’s official: Electric Forest is expanding to two weekends in 2017. Earlier this week, it was reported that the Michigan festival had submitted permits to hold back-to-back weekends next year, and now it appears the city council has approved the request. Electric Forest confirmed the news via their website, writing “after careful and thoughtful consideration, Electric Forest is ready to take an amazing leap into the future. Forest HQ is incredibly excited to announce that Electric Forest 2017 will take place on two distinct and back-to-back weekends at a lower capacity.”

The two weekends for next year are June 22 – 25 and June 29 – July 2. Perhaps the most exciting news is that both weekends will have a lower capacity, preserving the coveted intimacy of the Rothbury event. Electric Forest stated in regards to the decision: “Instead of moving toward one larger weekend, the most thoughtful choice was the creation of two smaller capacity weekends.” Capacity for each weekend will be reduced by approximately 10% according to Electric Forest’s website.
