Watch the dark teaser for Moby’s new album
Moby has long been a musical innovator. As one of the most influential figures in the electronic dance music scene in the US, he made a name for himself by experimenting with techno and breakbeat in the early ’90s, and has never stopped exploring new frontiers of his artistic expression.
Earlier this week, Moby posted a video on YouTube titled “These Systems Are Failing,” which, just as the title sounds, is rather dystopian and filled with the exact images that are conjured up by such a title. Considering that the description states, “debut album coming soon,” the title of the video seems likely to be the title of a new album that he will be releasing soon.
It wouldn’t make sense if it was solely his new album, as the legendary producer, DJ, and more recently singer-songwriter (not to mention author and photographer), has released over 10 studio albums over the course of his decades-long career. He has had numerous side projects in recent years, the most recent and active of which, a group called Moby & The Void Pacific Choir, seems to be a very likely contender.
Though this group has released songs mainly in the realm of alternative rock, with Moby’s reputation for experimentation, it’s best to leave the expectations at the door and go in with a very open mind.
