Porter Robinson’s ‘Sad Machine’ receives a beautiful classical makeover
Porter Robinson’s “Sad Machine” translates surprising well to classical format, as evidenced by popular YouTuber and violist “xclassicalcat.” Recruiting her friend Sunroof to arrange background harmonies with the piano, xclassicalcatx covers the Worlds single with warm doublestops and healthy bouts of vibrato while tingly piano chords in the background add an even more ethereal effect. She hits each note with equal precision as the original version, proving that classical music can still be very much in vogue.
The cover comes out just as the fifth anniversary of Porter’s debut Spitfire EP passed by, reminding us just how far he’s come musically since his days as a bedroom electro house producer.
