Watch the music video for Daft Punk and The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’
Last week, the unthinkable happened: we received a new collaboration from Daft Punk and The Weeknd — the robots’ first musical output since their work on Pharrell’s 2014’s single, “Gust of Material.” Titled “Starboy,” the collaboration showcased Abel Tesfaye’s signature crooning over an 808-friendly Daft Punk beat. While the influence from the legendary French duo was more subtle than many would have hoped, there’s still plenty to love about the new collaboration.
Now “Starboy” has received its official video accompaniment. Following the tone set forth by the track, the music video crafts a dark narrative in which Abel Tesfaye kills his old identity to become “Starboy.” The video is directed by Grant Singer and features a very brief Daft Punk cameo in the form of a painting on the wall. The video has already been nominated for ‘Best Video’ at MTV’s EMAs.
