Skrillex has positioned himself and his LA-based artist collective at the center of the thriving underground and determining what will be the next hot wave in electronic dance music. Over the last half decade since OWSLA’s inception, Skrillex himself has grown into one of the most influential A&R’s in dance music, if not the entire music industry altogether, and his once charmingly small, homegrown Los Angeles record imprint has become an esteemed launchpad for dance music’s next generation of leaders.
A short anniversary-inspired collage of clips running through OWSLA greatest highlights paints a reminiscent snapshot of the dance music landscape and how it has changed in the last half a decade. The stroll down memory lane, scored to the most fittingly-nostalgic tune of Skrillex’s “With You, Friends,” takes the viewer through the label’s early days with Porter Robinson, Nadastrom, Alvin Risk and Kill The Noise, while also visiting the future of dance music ahead with clips of Mija, Vindata, Getter and DJ Sliink.
From clips of all the past collaborators, from Pusha T to Chance The Rapper, to moments with friends like Zedd, Dillon Francis and12th Planet, it almost feels like OWSLA has transcended the confines of a record label and artist collective to something even greater altogether.
