Gorillaz kick off new album campaign with The Book of Noodle

Gorillaz’ new album campaign is finally underway. After re-launching their social media presence with a retrospective look at their career, the animated band have shared their first piece of new content: The Book of Noodle.

The new multimedia story chronicles the life of the group’s guitarist, Noodle, who, after the “attack on Plastic Beach,” is tasked with finding a shapeshifting demon named Maazu and destroying it. The story is told via animated video and text, and offers snippets of sardonic humor such as “finding a shapeshifter is like looking for a beard at an Arcade Fire concert.”

While Gorillaz have yet to formally announce their new album, the latest piece of the puzzle offers the first piece of new creative material from the band in years, officially beginning Phase 4 of their career. The last Gorillaz’ album, The Fall, arrived in 2011. The new, presently untitled album, is rumored to feature collaborations with Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, Vic Mensa, Massive Attack, and Jean Michel Jarre.
