Hardwell says ‘F*ck the DJ Mag’ in dramatic rant against DJ Mag 100
Earlier this week, DJ Mag unveiled their controversial Top 100 DJ list for 2016. The results of the list have inspired no shortage of confusion and contempt in the dance music community. Dillon Francis notably shared his own befuddlement in a video on Twitter, and now the world’s former #1 DJ, Hardwell, has voiced his unfiltered opinion.
During a Revealed show at ADE, Hardwell took the opportunity to share his thoughts on the poll. On stage with one of his label signees, Atmozfears, Hardwell candidly remarked:
“This is guy is a way better producer than me. Way fucking better. And this guy doesn’t get the chance to play the big festivals, so he’s never going to be on the list, so I say: fuck the DJ Mag.”
It’s an interesting juxtaposition to see the world’s former DJ Mag #1 (2013 and 2014, respectively) condemning the competition he previously campaigned so tirelessly for. If anything, it signals a major shift in the Top 100 paradigm. If the top campaigners in the EDM world are even turning their back against the poll, it begs the question: who are the rankings even targeting anymore?
