Prince tape breaks record for most expensive sold on Discogs

A Prince cassette from 1995 and containing a multitude of rarities committed to its tape has broken the record for most expensive sold on Discogs. Selling for $4,087, the cassette nearly doubled the previous record-holder, a box set from Throbbing Gristle which sold for $2,200. While Prince always inspired a rabid fan, the legend’s unexpected demise in April likely helped push the sale into record-breaking territory.

The prized tape, entitled The Versace Experience – Prelude to Goldwas given out to fans during the Purple One’s show at the 1995 Paris Fashion Week. Containing numerous rare edits and remixes, the cassette was also a precursor to Prince’s 17th studio album, The Gold Experience.
