Tim Gunter – First Breath (Original Mix)
Austin-born, Los Angeles-based producer Tim Gunter‘s remixes span the genre spectrum — from his edit of Snoop Dogg’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot,’ which has been streamed more than four million times, to more recent reworks of Mutemath and Matthew Koma, nothing is deemed off-limits for remixing. Though he’s been active for several years, he has held off from providing an original production until “First Breath,” the most recent output from the producer.
“First Breath” begins on an understated note, driven by a simple bassline and moody atmospheric effects. The track picks up tempo after the first drop, swelling with dynamic percussion and peppered with melodic synth notes.
Gunter reveals that “I wrote this track back in the spring. It was a reflection of how I felt at the time, and often still do. First Breath is a metaphor for beginning something new. The track starts out dark and mysterious but when the drop hits it’s triumphant and happy. As a creative, I feel like expressing yourself is always fairly daunting. But in the end, it’s always worth it. From someone who is known for remixes, this original track means a lot to me. I hope people can relate it to their own lives as well.”
