Watch deadmau5 debut his anthem for the Toronto Maple Leafs
Deadmau5 is one of the more proud Canadians you’ll find in electronic music. Thus, when the offer came to craft the theme song for the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 100 year anniversary home opener game, he jumped at the chance.
“I got an e-mail from management asking if I would consider doing it and I was like heck yeah,” said deadmau5 in an interview with NHL.com.
Yesterday, at the Centennial celebrations for the NHL team, deadmau5 debuted the new track: a reworked version of his unreleased song “Professional Cat Thruster.”
Zimmerman said of the track: “I knew I had to do something that was palatable and worked for the crowd and also lend itself to some audience participation. These thoughts all formed in my head before I even sat down.”
The result is one of the more energetic creations to emerge from Zimmerman’s arsenal of new material. His signature electro-tinged chord progressions abound, backed by stadium-sized percussion and sound design.
