At the vanguard of technology, electronic music and the performance arts, Richie Hawtin has revolutionized the way DJs produce and perform. In May, he released a brand new PLAYdifferently Model 1 DJ mixer – a collaboration between him and developer Andy Rigby-Jones. The mixer, serving as PLAYdifferently’s first-ever product, is meant to give off the look and feel of a real instrument, unveiling a new age of creativity in the modern world.

A University of Huddersfield alum — he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University in 2015 — it’s only natural Hawtin delivered a masterclass to showcase his latest technology and demonstrate PLAYdifferently’s capabilities.

“We can’t push forward if everybody is doing the same thing,” he commented. “That’s not why I got involved in electronic music. But at some point you realize that the way to be like them is to be as much yourself as possible, so you become individual and unique.”
