Andhim – German Winter
Asides from being the birthplace of Kompakt, Cologne has long been a staple exporter of fine German techno. Andhim have with time become one of its more globally palatable exports, donning a quirky and instrumentally refined stance on the sound that has not only made them highly bookable, but easily imitable across the European front. Returning to the fold with the befittingly titled ‘German Winter’ from their impending Tosch EP, the pair mirror their hometown’s Gothic facade with a symphony of swelling organs and glitchy lead work. Never too boisterous or heavy footed, their studio work is proof to the multiple textures and dynamics available to the genre outside of the mainroom handiwork more commonly associated with the European techno sound. No one really likes the winter, but Adhim’s latest is a warming experience from start to finish.
