Apple’s wireless earbuds, AirPods, are finally on sale
This week, tech giant Apple finally announced that their wireless earbuds, the AirPods, are officially on sale. Apple’s first foray into the area of wireless headphones, the AirPods, were announced along with the iPhone 7 back in September, which, as many will remember, was heavily criticized for its lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The official release of the AirPods was delayed in order for Apple to put the finishing touches on the new device, which is jam-packed full of sensors, microphones, and the brand-new W1 chip. There have been many positive reviews of the AirPods so far, and to be sure, there are some features, such as the included small plastic case that protects them and acts as a mobile charging station, that are quite innovative.
Of course, there will always be some aspects of a new technology that don’t match expectations. For instance, reviewers have noted a lack of noise-cancellation that can erode the listening experience in almost anything but a very quiet environment. Additionally, the user has to double tap the AirPods and ask Siri to change the song that’s playing, rather than allowing a physical function that will do it, as the old headphones did.
All in all, it sounds like the AirPods might just have been worth the wait. With a price tag that is actually cheaper than most other high-quality wireless earbuds ($159), these are sure to be seen in the ears of a significant portion of people walking down the street or waiting for the subway.
As MacRumors reports, the AirPods have already sold out online and are expected to ship within six weeks now.
