The Radar 74: Mixed by Matt Hubert

Matt Hubert is one of the more eclectic California-based artists you’ll find. The upcoming San Francisco DJ is just as liable to lull you into a spell with some mind-bending ambient as he is chugging, otherworldly techno. It’s this kind of versatility that has made Hubert an esteemed local performer over the past few years, with notable opening slots for legends like John Digweed and Anja Schneider in 2016 alone.

Now Hubert steps up to take control of Dancing Astronaut’s The Radar, offering up an hour-long mix of ethereal selections. Hubert’s mix begins slow and dreamy, drawing you in with delicate offerings from melodic masterminds like Roman Flugel and Fort Romeau. Gradually, the tempo and intensity increases as Hubert expertly maneuvers through charming tracks from the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Joakim and more. It’s an altogether hypnotizing journey, and an apt showcase of Hubert’s seasoned taste.

“This mix is a reflection of what I would normally play in a DJ set in the club. I wanted to create a journey through the many different sounds that define my style at the moment – deep, dark, driving, and always melodic. I didn’t want to focus on the tunes of the moment, only on the quality of the music – there is a mixture of new, unreleased, and older tunes in here that have all deeply resonated with me. I hope you enjoy the journey…” – Matt Hubert
