Watch the trailer for the forthcoming ‘Blade Runner’ sequel

The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s long-awaited Blade Runner sequel, entitled Blade Runner 2049, has finally arrived. Scott’s original film, released in 1982, saw Harrison Ford play ex-LAPD officer Rick Deckard, in a dystopian future vision of 2019. The trailer for Blade Runner 2049 shows the sequel’s protagonist, played by Ryan Gosling, encountering Deckard thirty years following the original film.

Scott and Blade Runner 2049 director Dennis Villenueve have revealed a brief synopsis of the forthcoming film in conjunction the trailer’s premiere:

“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”

Few films have managed to intertwine as strongly with electronic music’s culture in their soundtracks as Scott’s original film, scored by the legendary Vangelis. Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannson will follow in Vangelis’ footsteps to score Blade Runner 2049. The sequel will arrive in theaters October 6, 2017.
