East Coast ensemble Smle were ahead of the curve where the recently rekindled enthusiasm for live dance acts is concerned. Debuting this month on indie heavyweights Lowly Place, the duo’s latest single continues to show an increasingly sharp coherence for the act’s commercially appetizing take on a niche sect of the electronic dance world. Heavy stepping but infectiously built around Helen Tess’s standout vocal chops, “Overflow” is a glitchy future bass offering of significantly high caliber. This isn’t one for the peak time crowds, but smle’s latest sophisticated and easy-stepping gem is an essential piece of listening for quarter one.
