Developing: Nightclub shooting in Cincinnati leaves one dead, at least 15 injured
One person is confirmed dead with at least 15 others reported injured in a shooting that occurred inside Cincinnati’s Cameo Nightclub. Shots rang out at approximately 1AM on Sunday morning inside the club, leaving at least two others in in critical condition. Police do not yet have a suspect in custody, however Cincinnati Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate has reported that law enforcement believes there was only one shooter and that the incident does not appear to be an act of terrorism.
Police believe the fatal attack was caused by an earlier altercation during the day that erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning inside Cameo. Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black told reporters, “The conflict is believed to have begun between specific groups or individuals earlier in the day, escalating and ultimately leading to this tragedy occurring at the nightclub.”
Cameo has a history of trouble, with multiple assaults reported at the venue between 2013 – 2016. Police described a scene of chaos inside the club as many witnesses fled to safety. Victims are now being treated at a number of local hospitals as police begin interviewing witnesses. Investigators are asking anyone with information to please come forward. According to statistics compiled by gunviolence.com, this is the worst US mass shooting of 2017, in number of total victims, out of 71 incidents already reported.
