Listen to Lane 8 and Kidnap Kid’s dreamy new collaboration, ‘Aba’

Daniel Goldstein and Matt Relton, the names behind Lane 8 and Kidnap Kid, respectively, have both developed reputations as creative talents that deliver uniquely minimal and melodic tracks time after time. The pair’s new Anjunadeep collaboration, “Aba,” serves as no exception to this. With long, beautiful sweeps, a rich piano motif, and a surreal vocoded chorus, “Aba” has all the elements expected from these sonic legends. Pinpointing genre here is unavailing, but there are noticeable elements of melodic deep house, minimalist techno, and even trance. All this comes together in an artfully impressive soundscape.

Lane 8 and Kidnap Kid have been reputable talents for roughly half a decade. In a press release for this new track, Goldstein says its inspiration can be traced back to 2014, but didn’t take full form until 2015. By that time, Goldstein says, “Aba” had become “a pretty heavily requested track in Lane 8 sets, and “fans were trying to figure out what the hell it was.” However, Lane 8 admits that he and Kidnap Kid never got around to finishing the track until now.

Encouraged by Anjunadeep’s Don Donnelly, Goldstein and Relton stuck with it and eventually finished the track for release in 2017. Matt Relton also offered his thoughts on what came together:

“I’ve been a big admirer of Dan’s music for a long time so I’m really happy we’ve been able to work on a track together. I think we found a really nice middle ground between our two styles and it came out sounding great.”

The two producers’ styles blend expectedly fluidly, given both of their expert capacities for providing mesmerizing, but invigorating releases.
