Lorde’s new song “Green Light” dabbles in dance pop
Over a long enough timeline the sounds and styles of the underground always end up adopted by the mainstream. Last month even Ed Sheeran took note of the trends when he released the supremely dance-able ‘Shape of You’ and now it is Lorde’s turn. The singer-songwriter has been relatively silent since her debut album Pure Heroine pushed her into the music zeitgeist and the pop culture stratosphere. Her return to fray comes in the form of “Green Light,” a still pop effort that has touches of house interlaced throughout. The type electronic influence has likely permeated her entire new album of which she describes as the story of the “fluorescent years of her life,” if you catch her drift.
