Premiere: Matrixxman – The Spell (Pleasurekraft Remix)

Charles Duff has made a significant name for himself as Matrixxman across the last several years, earning a number of releases on esteemed imprints such as Dekmantel and Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels. In 2014, Matrixxman released the “The Spell,” brooding, yet melodic piece which drew from a number of assorted influences, on Pleasurekraft’s Kraftek label.

Three years later, Pleasurekraft have themselves remixed “The Spell.” In a continuation of the act’s foray into the techno realm, Pleasurekraft’s remix is ominous, caustic, and driven by perennially quaking percussion. However, like Matrixxman’s original production, this remix of “The Spell” is stylistically eclectic in its progression.

While Pleasurekraft maintain a dark, spacious essence throughout the track’s entirety, they also tread into the realm of the ethereal in their integration of Matrixxman’s predominant staccato synth-work with their own original synthesis. In remixing “The Spell,” Pleasurekraft have reaffirmed their harrowing, cerebral techno tendencies of late, but have also managed to provide one of their most ethereal outputs of recent times.

Pleasurekraft’s remix of “The Spell” will be released via Kraftek on Friday, April 7. Stream the track a week ahead of its release below, and preorder here.
