Pretty Lights releases 31 new live edits from Episodic Festival tour

Late in December of last year, Derek Vincent Smith revealed that he would be releasing a new Pretty Lights video album early in 2017. News of Smith’s first album since 2013’s revolutionary A Color Map of the Sun is indisputably exhilarating for his devout fan base. While no official release date has been set for the album, which has been rumored to drop on April 20, Pretty Lights has kickstarted March with a trove of hitherto unreleased music to tide his fans over in the meantime.

As the artist’s most dedicated adherents would corroborate, Pretty Lights’ live performances are one of his most attractive qualities – not just for the dazzling visual spectacle, but also for the unique renditions of his tracks in the concert setting. Smith and the Pretty Lights band strive to push the envelope in terms of fusing live electronic music with jazz and jam band instrumentations in unique, scintillating ways with each passing tour. Arguably, Pretty Lights achieved a marriage between the two styles with greater success than ever before in 2016’s Episodic Festival tour.

Today, March 1, Pretty Lights has released a staggering 31-track album of live edits for his classic songs from different stops throughout last year’s tour to his YouTube channel. Featuring “flips” of songs such as “More Important Than Michael Jordan,” “So Much In The Dark,” and “Yellow Bird,” these live renditions highlight Pretty Lights and his band’s keen ability to completely invert his original music without compromising its integrity.
