LCD Soundsystem deliver first two singles from forthcoming comeback album

That’s how it starts.

The first tastes of LCD Soundsystem‘s eminently triumphant comeback record are now upon us by way of two fresh new singles from the group, their first products since 2015’s “Christmas Will Break Your Heart.” The two new offerings also arrive almost exactly seven years to the day since the New York dance legends’ last studio album, This Is Happening.

The group’s latest outputs, “Call The Police” and “American Dream,” are the quintessential indie-dance pop treasures that the world has been sorely missing since LCD’s five year hiatus. Considering the success first two singles, the rest of the forthcoming record is likely to fill the void left in the band’s absence entirely. The new releases come just ahead of LCD Soundsystem’s debut Saturday Night Live performance this weekend.

“Call The Police” is high-octane Soundsystem firing on all pistons, with James Murphy delivering one of his characteristically poignant vocal performances across the seven-minute synth-pop opus. On the other side of the coin, Murphy and company also delivered “American Dream,” a stark downtempo contrast to “Call The Police.” Dreary, distant, and familiarly somber, “American Dream” perfectly encapsulates the other end of the LCD spectrum, rounding out two incredibly satisfying, albeit variant, holdovers.
