Last weekend, Electric Daisy Carnival returned to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for its 2017 iteration. The festival, which drew roughly 135,000 attendees for each day of its three-day tenure, boasts the claim of being the largest music festival in the country this year. However, Insomniac’s flagship event was not without its setbacks.

Though, statistically speaking, the sole fatality and 1,000 medical calls made during the weekend indicated that EDC placed an emphasis on harm reduction efforts, the oppressive heat of the weekend was a complaint for many attendees. Indeed, some artists blamed the high temperatures as a factor to recurrent sound issues during certain performances. Insomniac also faced complaints regarding the shuttle lines and level of traffic that hindered the process of festival entry, which some argue is related to their banning of third party shuttle services from the festival this year.

This weekend, Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella held a live stream on Instagram during the currently ongoing Electric Forest, which his company produces in conjunction with Madison House Presents. During the stream, Rotella noted that “big changes” for EDC Las Vegas are coming up, adding that he intends to announce the change soon and is writing out a presumed statement “while here at eforest.”

It’s currently unclear what the “big changes” for the festival will be. Some have speculated the possibility of a venue change, which could help ameliorate the formidable heat of EDC Las Vegas, but might prove problematic to festival’s ability to take place through the wee hours of the morning. Another popular hypothesis is the annual rumor of EDC becoming a two-weekend festival, despite the fact that it did not sell out in 2017.

Only time will tell what changes are in store for the country’s currently-reigning largest music festival, but it appears that Rotella is not taking the announcement lightly.
