RL Grime collaborates with Miguel on the emotive single, ‘Stay for It’
Henry Steinway, more widely known as RL Grime, has been locked away in the studio pinning down the precise creative direction he sees his career taking. Yesterday, June 1, the LA-native announced his upcoming sophomore LP, Nova, using a self-published zine, which nods backs to the 1990s punk rock underground.
In this creative address, sent to 100 lucky fans around the world, Steinway describes the album as “more than just an album, or single narrative,” but an interactive journey with fans. “I want the Nova project to create spaces where you can feel part of the process,” writes Steinway. How the Grime Master plans to do this is quite unclear, but RL has already begun teasing out new pieces that make up the larger puzzle that is Nova.
Today, June 1, Australian radio station Triple J premiered a brand new RL Grime track titled, “Stay For It,” which features pop/R&B artist, Miguel. To accompany the premiere of the track, Stenway also took to his Facebook platform to give an in-depth look into the collaborative studio session between him and Miguel back in early April. Steinway even included a transcript of the conversation the two has during their studio session:
“I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world off the things I’ve made, and the realization I’ve come to is this: From the artwork, to the music videos, to the live show; hearing the music is just a part of a much greater whole. The thing that unites it isn’t just RL Grime, it’s your experiences. For this next chapter, just like you’ve been with me to share the results of the process, this time I want to share the journey with you as well.”
Arriving only one month after his his dark, cinematic “Reims,” “Stay For It (Feat. Miguel)” is an unexpected collaboration that Steinway intends to be “a marriage of both our sounds,” blending hard-hitting futuristic trap with intensely passionate, emotional lyrics.
