Icon Spotlight: June
Icon Collective has solidified its reputation as the premier educational facility for electronic music production on the West Coast. The North Hollywood arts school has become a breeding ground for the next generation of talent, as evidenced by its formidable track record, which includes the likes of Jauz, MAKJ, Slander, SNBRN and more.
To spotlight some of the amazing talent coming out of the school, we’ve teamed up with Icon for a new series highlighting tracks from the past month from both current students and Icon graduates.
Icon isn’t typically associated with techno artists, but hiding among the plethora of trap, dubstep, and pop producer is a growing contingent of underground acts. One example is Anakim, who recently delivered his second original, “Dark Matter,” offering a dark assemblage of progressive and tech influences.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, BLŪM returned with a refreshing indie dance piece “Washed.Away,” creating a palatable pop anthem. Similarly, Paperwings flipped RL Grime’s massive crossover hit, “Stay For It feat. Miguel,” into a ripping melodic bass cut.
Further showcasing the diversity of Icon, R € X E X dropped a smooth, lo-fi hip-hop number titled “Let’s get lost.
Lastly, Icon instructor and songwriter extraordinaire Slow Shiver dropped a beautifully crafted music video for his poignant new single, “Set In Stone.”
