Anaphase delivers mind-bending ‘Cortex’ EP for John Monkman’s Beesemyer Music
Anaphase is a new duo out of London crafting cerebral, left-field electronica. Pulling influences from IDM, techno, and glitch and combining them with poignant vocals, they’ve created a signature sound that is best described as emphatically haunting.
After joining John Monkman’s burgeoning Beesemyer Music imprint with the beautiful “Disconnect,” they’ve returned with a brand new Cortex EP for the label. Picking up where they left off, title track “Cortex” is a mind-bending composition built off a broken beat, otherworldly sound design, and the kind of existential lyricism that would have Maynard Keenan smiling.
B-side “Ornament” features a somber piano line, that, combined with Anaphase’s yearning vocals, is reminiscent of Radiohead in the best way possible.
The EP further arrives with a remix from blossoming UK talent Theo Kottis, who strips down “Cortex” for a more dancefloor-friendly affair.
