Bandcamp to donate this Friday’s profits to Transgender Law Center

On Friday, August 4, Bandcamp will donate 100% of their share of the company’s sales to the Transgender Law Center. Bandcamp describes the TLC as a “nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to change law, policy, and culture for the more equitable.” The initiative is in response to President Donald Trump‘s unilateral Twitter declaration last week to bar people from the trans community from serving in the military. Bandcamp comments on their official website,

“We support our LGBT+ users and staff, and we stand against any person or group that would see them further marginalized.”

The measure follows suit with Bandcamp’s response to Trump’s “Muslim ban” in February, when the site held a similar fundraiser for the ACLU. Bandcamp sold an estimated $1M in music that day. Their upcoming donation Friday runs from 12:00am to 11:59pm PST. Read their full statement, in addition to a list of trans and gender non-conforming artists gathered by the Bandcamp staff, here.
