[BREAKING] Zedd & Alessia Cara take first dance music VMA, more results to follow

MTV hosted the 2017 edition of its annual Video Music Awards ceremony this evening, doling out Moon Men to the winners of a variety of categories ranging from “Best Collaboration” to “Best Cinematography.” With its host Katy Perry kicking off the star studded ceremony with her inimitable brand of giddy humor, the VMAs honored artists working across a variety of genres.

On the dance music end, Zedd and Alessia Cara arose as the victors of the “Best Dance [Video]” award for their collaboration, “Stay.” Fellow nominees for the award included Kygo and Selena Gomez for “It Ain’t Me,” Calvin Harris for “My Way,” Major Lazer, [ft. Justin Bieber and ] for “Cold Water,” and Afrojack [ft. Ty Dolla $ign] for “Gone.”

The Chainsmokers are up for “Best Editing” and “Best Collaboration,” where they will compete alongside Calvin Harris for the evening’s best collaboration. Harris is nominated for his Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Big Sean feature, “Feels.”

UPDATE [8/28/2017 12:08 AM ET]: Wyclef Jean took the VMA for “Best Editing,” while Zayn and Taylor Swift left with the VMA for “Best Collaboration” for “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” The Chainsmokers presented the award for “Best New Artist” to frequent EDM feature, Khalid.
