Crankdat’s first original, ‘Dollars’ is an ebullient surprise after much anticipation
Christian Smith, better known as Crankdat, is one of the few entrancing artists you just can’t pigeonhole into a specific genre of dance music due to his ever changing style and experimentation with different sounds. From the melodic dubstep remix of Mija‘s “Secrets“, to his uplifting, energetic progressive house take on Gryffin and Illlenium‘s “Feel Good,” to his infectious rendition of Fetty Wap‘s “Trap Queen” in the early stages of his career, which has amassed over 47 million plays on SoundCloud alone, the 20 year old shows no signs of slowing down his streak of absolutely riveting, ingenious releases.
After dropping several remixes and collaborations, Crankdat has finally put out his first original track, titled “Dollars,” which for anyone following the young Ohio native artist will be easily recognizable from his mixes and live sets. “Dollars” features a free-spirited mellifluous chorus, exuberant vocals, and is tied together by captivating harmonic waves of bass. Undoubtably, with his first original, the bar is set high for Crankdat as he begins his journey in solo production. For those who haven’t heard his thrilling creations, “Dollars” gives listeners another reason to “gear up” with rising superstar Crankdat.
