From drummer to DJ: Zedd reveals that he was in a metal band for eight years
Before Zedd ever took his position behind the decks, he was taking a seat behind a drum set.
In a recent cover story for Billboard, Anton Zaslavski recalled his involvement in DIORAMIC, the German metalcore band for which Zedd was the drummer from ages twelve to twenty. A further illustration of Zedd’s versatility not simply as a DJ/producing entity, but as a musician working across genres, Zedd’s role in DIORAMIC’s overall construction proved pivotal — the band was largely known in Germany, its notoriety frequently leading its members to “skip class to tour.” DIORAMIC produced two self-released EPs in 2005 and 2008 respectively, later countering previous releases with its 2014 album, Supra.
Although Zedd departed from the group in 2012 for “personal reasons,” the same year that he would sign with Interscope Records to release his debut single on the label, “Spectrum,” Zedd notably appeared on Supra as the album’s drummer.
