Illegal rave in Surrey requires 50 police officers, one helicopter to end event
Police officers in Surry, England found themselves in a stand off over the weekend after a massive illegal rave attracted the attention of the authorities, after they were initially alerted by concerned citizens in the neighboring Dorking area.
The unlicensed music event attracted more than 500 people to a Surrey office block at approximately 10PM on Saturday evening. When community members noticed a crowd assembled around the office block, they phoned police to investigate the situation. It took a total of fifty police officers to terminate the rave—a helicopter circled above the building as party goers resisted officers’ movements to shut down the event. Dorking is hailed as one of the UK’s most active nightlife spots, classifying the illegal rave as a certifiable disturbance, but not all that absurd considering the community’s spirited reputation.
