Meet the underground talent of CRSSD Fest: Prok & Fitch

San Diego’s CRSSD Fest – presented by FNGRS CRSSD — has become a sanctuary for underground electronic music fans. The upcoming Fall edition is pumped with a wide array of unadulterated talent, where headliners including RÜFÜS DU SOL, Richie Hawtin, and Hot Since 82 are joined by up-and-coming acts like Breakbot, Solardo, and Hito to make for a weekend of top quality music from all over the underground spectrum. To dig a big deeper into the lineup, we’ve tapped some of our favorite acts on the bill for an interview series before the festival.

Prok & Fitch are veritable household names in every sense of the world. The UK natives broke into the scene with their debut single “Otro Lugar,” and have spent the past decade polishing their craft and climbing to the top of the house and tech house ranks. Their name is now more ubiquitous than ever — their driving, high-charged sounds regularly making it onto the likes of Stealth and Toolroom, in addition to Suara, Relief Records, and others.

In particular, the past couple years have been monumental for the duo. Demand is at an all-time high for their presence, and the two have been rising to the rigor of a busy tour schedule while continually updating their podcast and creating music that rocks dance-floors with each release. In 2015, Prok & Fitch were recognized by Beatport as one of its top-selling tech house acts, and since then, their collection of charting hits has only grown. Dancing Astronaut had a quick chat with the duo ahead of their CRSSD debut, where they discussed an array of topics close to their hearts.

At what point did you realize that Djing could be a career for you, rather than simply a passion?
We’ve both been playing records for a long time, and when you’re young you usually always aspire to make your main passion your job. Its tough to really make that happen but we worked pretty hard at it, making lots of sacrifices and most importantly having a great time along the way. After making our debut production together back in 1997 (Outro Lugar), Roger Sanchez immediately snapped it up for Stealth Records, he took us under his wing and we haven’t looked back.

What’s the most important project in your pipeline at the moment?
We’re busier now than ever before, and enjoying a great spell in the studio working on original stuff, as well as new collaborations with Mihalis Safras, Solardo and Green Velvet all underway. Outside of the Studio, we’re really excited about our new “Insights” label/ party concept that we’ll be launching very soon, expect something fresh…

What’s your opinion of the dance scene in the US right now?
Absolutely booming, North America’s probably our favourite territory to play around the world right now, we’ve been spinning there for quite a few years and have seen a huge shift musically its been refreshing to see, and great to be a part of.

What are you looking forward to most about CRSSD Fest?
We’ve been watching videos online & hearing from other Dj mates how good it is for years, so we can’t wait to play and experience it first hand. The line up is ridiculous and we can’t wait to check out the other acts playing and getting stuck in.

If you could be another artist for a day, who would you pick?
Without doubt Daft Punk, what they’ve done for electronic music is unbelievable, their music is amazing & live shows are something special

If you could recommend three artists to catch from the lineup, who would you pick?
KiNK, Patrick Topping & Jesse Rose

If you were recruited to provide an Essential Mix in 2017, what’s the one song you couldn’t leave out?
That’s a tough one, we’d go for “Sidney Charles- The Duke (Jesse Perez Remix)” a great remix that works really well on the floor…
