Premiere: Kotek & Littlemore – Surface
When Kotek, real name Michael Mlikotic, bursted onto the scene last year for winning Splice‘s remix competition, the Vancouver Island-native found himself playing MysteryLand USA within a mere months. Fast forward another six months and Mlikotic was signed to Gramatik’s Lowtemp Records for the release of a debut EP, titled Aurora.
Now from the self-taught producer comes a suspenseful composition that seems to highlight Kotek’s personal taste above all else. With it’s bleak sound design — which evokes a score for a futuristic dystopian film — “Surface” sees Kotek team up with fellow Vancouver producer Littlemore on a definitively darker track that fuses deep, growling bass lines with four-to-the-floor rhythms. The result is a industrial-tinged sound akin to the style of Kotek’s recent collaborators REZZ and BlackGummy.
