Spotify and Hulu offer joint subscription service for students at just $4.99
2017 has been loaded with legendary collabs. Now two of the worlds most in-demand outfits present a new kind of collaboration, a joint subscription between the leading streaming giant Spotify and the popular on-demand outfit Hulu. Priced at just $4.99 per month, “Spotify Premium for Students, now with Hulu,” is a significantly cheaper purchasing plan for the services, which currently stand at $9.99 and $7.99 per month, respectively.
But the subscription combo is likely to have an impact on the streaming industry as a whole, as both companies went so far as to say they’ll offer other bundles in the future that target the market at large, of course, details are still pending regarding those plans.
Subscribers who buy the bundle will still use the services individually. This isn’t an integration of the services per say, merely a convenience in pricing.
This joint service marks the first time Spotify’s partnered with an on-demand streaming service. It arrives just as the company has been rethinking its existing role in the video market and as Spotify’s head of video and podcasts, Tom Calderone, left the company after Spotify’s pivot to video.
While Calderone was at the company, Spotify had been expanding its original video content, but following his departure, Spotify said it would focus on expanding its efforts on playlists.
In turn, Spotify’s pivoted to partnership. The service understands the difficulties that would come in trying to build its own service like Hulu’s and to compete with an original content market of that stature. Spotify x Hulu is available for students to cop now.
