Kygo releases OneRepublic collaboration and pop-leaning ‘Riding Shotgun’ ahead of album release
Kygo‘s sophomore album Kids in Love is set for release on November 3, and for a week preceding, the Norwegian producer has been releasing one track a day from the LP. So far, the album is a combination of tropical house and pop with collaborations ranging from John Newman to OneRepublic.
The first three tracks from the album that have been released are the title track “Kids In Love,” “Never Let You Go,” and “Sunrise.” So far, each track has been incredibly different, and the Norwegian producer’s next two releases “Riding Shotgun” and “Stranger Things” continue this trend of diversity.
“Riding Shotgun” opens with Bonnie McKee’s high pitched vocals and then falls into a pop tropical drop. Many of the producer’s recent tracks have leaned pop over electronic, but “Riding Shotgun” has groovy chords and an extended electronic drop, courtesy of the production collaboration with Sweden’s Oliver Nelson, while McKee’s catchy vocals are the glue that will appeal to pop lovers.
For his next release titled “Stranger Things,” Kygo partnered with OneRepublic, and the high profile collaboration is almost certainly going to be a radio sensation. The production elements of this track are very subtle with piano and a steady drum beat serving as the backbone of the track while OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder vocals are the focal point.
John Newman and OneRepublic are not new to collaborating with electronic music producers, having previously worked with Calvin Harris and Alesso, respectively. As Kygo continues to roll out tracks ahead of Kids In Love‘s release, it will be interesting to see who else the producer is collaborating with.
