Shigeto returns with ‘The New Monday’
After an almost exactly four-year hiatus, Detroit’s very own Shigeto is back with a new LP, The New Monday.
Out via Ghostly International and the producer’s very own Portage Garage Sounds, the record is a culmination of Shigeto’s, born Zach Saginaw, return to his home state of Michigan after an extended period living in Brooklyn. Clocking in at nine tracks, The New Monday is a heady fusion of the Saginaw’s jazz background — he began his career as a drummer — and Detroit’s burgeoning, boundary-pushing scene. Ranging from experimental rap, flourishes of techno, and the smooth house sounds that Shigeto, in particular, and Detroit, in general, have become known for, The New Monday is a welcome return from one of electronic music’s most intriguing, singular artists.
