Above & Beyond infuses pop into trance with latest release ‘Northern Soul’

A pulsing bassline and distinctive vocals plunge the listener into “Northern Soul,” Above & Beyond’s newest single. The trio has released a regular and extended version of the track, and “Northern Soul” trades Above & Beyond’s usual mystical trance elements and replaces them with an upbeat poppy sound. The breakdown and subsequent drop are still distinctively trance-infused, but the track has a lot to offer to those who may not identify with the genre.

“Northern Soul” marks the group’s reunion with “Sun and Moon” vocalist Richard Bedford, and this release is the third single off of the group’s upcoming Common Ground album — the first two being “Tightrope” and “My Own Hymn.” While the full LP will be released in 2018, Above & Beyond will embark upon a North American tour this winter beginning on December 29 in Los Angeles.
