Diplo, Marshmello, Post Malone, more mourn the loss of Lil Peep, dead at 21

Rising emo rapper Lil Peep has passed away at the age of 21. Born Gustav Åhr in 1996 on Long Island, New York, Lil Peep eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue his hip-hop music career, joining up with independent rap collectives Schemaposse and Gothboiclique. His catalyzing lyrics addressed drug addiction and mental illness, with recent releases, “White Wine” and “Girls,” garnering millions of streams online. His debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober Part 1 landed earlier this year.

While the cause of death is not yet confirmed, a drug overdose is suspected. The 21-year-old rapper shared an image showing two pills placed on his tongue captioned, “When I die you’ll love me.” Peep’s manager, Chase Ortega manager publicly broke the news, tweeting, “I’ve been expecting his call for a year. Mother f–k.”

The up-and-coming rapper’s untimely passing has sparked widespread public outcry from many of Peep’s contemporaries.
