Stranger Things composers break down main title theme on ‘Song Exploder’

Netflix‘s original series Stranger Things is the streaming service’s hottest show for the second straight year.

Initially released in July of 2016, the nostalgia-steeped series has since been nominated for 18 Emmys and even went on to win the Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.

The show’s composers Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon of the synth-led electronica outfit S U R V I V E have now stopped by Song Exploder to break down the ominous main title sequence and more. In a short and sweet discussion, the two delve into the creative freedom of working on a Netflix original, how the Duffer brothers approached them via email, their musical communication process, working up to the theme, and more.
