Help Musicians UK opens 24-hour mental health hotline for musicians, music industry figures

Not long after leading a monumental study of mental health in the British music industry, Help Musicians UK has developed a phone line designed for musicians, managers, tour crew, and other industry figures in need of an outlet to talk. The line arrives in the wake of Help Musicians UK’s findings that musicians are three times more likely to suffer from depression than non-musicians.

The study, “Can Music Make You Sick?,” indicated that access to mental health resources in the music industry is currently inadequate — 53% of voluntary survey respondents reported that they did not “find it easy to get help” for mental health related issues.

Help Musicians UK’s health and welfare team has since witnessed a surge in requests for mental health assistance, recording a 22% rise. The mental health support inquiries have been received directly from musicians.

The 24-hour helpline will take calls seven days a week free of charge. Those seeking to speak to a hotline representative can phone the helpline at 0808 802 8008.
