Could Hot Chip be planning a new album?
Hot Chip bandmates Alexis Taylor and Al Doyle have posted videos on their Instagrams where they appear to be in the studio. While it’s more difficult to place the context of Doyle’s video, Taylor’s video features Doyle in the studio too, and as a result, fans have begun speculating that a new Hot Chip album may be on the horizon.

Hot Chip’s last album Why Make Sense? was released in 2015. In an interview with NME in 2015, the outfit spoke about the record and touched on how EDM had begun to usurp pop.
“This modern dance music that’s enjoyed by thousands of people, it’s basically Mumford & Sons or Coldplay music but with a trance beat,” Goddard said. Continuing, “What I’m interested in is the old, clichéd idea of house music, which basically works best with a few hundred people and no lights. No staring at the stage and it all being about a spectacle.”
Since the release of their last album, Alexis Taylor has gone on to release a solo album and a companion record. Taylor and Joe Goddard were credited on “Into Me You See,” the closing track to Katy Perry‘s Witness album, and released a re-working of Perry’s track “Chained To The Rhythm,” earlier last year.
Hot Chip have continually reinvented their studio compositions over the last few years. They’ve created an enthralling live atmosphere and frequented DJ sets across the world, where attendees need expect the unexpected. While Taylor and Goddard have often been the driving forces behind these appearances, Owen Clarke and Felix Martin have joined too. Considering Hot Chip’s predilect for the unknown, and their previously expressed desire to move EDM beyond the “spectacle” or “cliches,” a new record from the group may not be too far off, but it looks for now like we’ll just have to wait and see.
