MUST LISTEN: Carl Cox kicks off the 25th year of BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix
The techno maven Carl Cox has served up the very first BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix of the year.
Considering the show turns 25 this year, it’s fitting that Cox — who Pete Tong referred to as “one of the most legendary DJs in dance history” — served up the very first mix of the year.
Cox’s first Essential Mix came in October of 1994 for the program’s 49th episode where he dropped off a selection of satiating tracks from the time, including Green Velvet’s original “Preacher Man” mix, Jackmaster‘s legendary “Bang The Box,” and Jeff Mills‘ “Cycle 30” and “Life Cycle.”
Cox delves into what he’s dubbed as “the future of house and techno” in the new mix. In just over two hours, he serves up an electric array of tracks from today’s heavy-hitters in the genres from Nicole Moudaber, to Eats Everything, Nathan Barato, and more.
