Sylvan Esso delights on silky new single, ‘PARAD(w/m)E’

The striking North Carolina dance-pop duo Sylvan Esso has followed up their beloved What Now LP and subsequent visual Echo Mountain Sessions EP of the last year with their most outright pop song to date.

The largely contradictory “PARAD(w/m)E” embarks from the two’s earlier folk-pop material in the most blatant fashion to date.

It’s worth noting that the duo has become increasingly poppy though over the years. One can pinpoint a seemingly natural, but significant stylistic shift from their self-titled debut released 2014 and their 2017 LP What Now — which had standout dance tracks like “The Glow,” “Die Young,” and “Radio.” Perhaps most impressively, Amelia Meath’s distinct vocals are never lost on listeners. Even when charting unknown territory, Nick Sanborn juxtaposes melodies to Meath’s silky beckonings that are hard for listeners to resist parading along to.
