Exclusive: Kotek & Shylow – Reflection Sequence

Best known for his entrance into the dance music community with a win in a Splice remix competition — one that would get him signed to Gramatik‘s Lowtemp Records — Kotek has been busy producing some decisively darker, industrial-tinged tracks. From his collaborative single, “Ascension,” with REZZ, which bowed on Space Mom’s debut Mass Manipulation LP, to the track “Surface,” which premiered on Dancing Astronaut alongside fellow Vancouver producer Littlemore.

Now Kotek, real name Michael Mlikotic, is kicking off 2018 with another unique collaboration. This time the Lowtemp signee is teaming up with fellow Canadian west coaster Shylow, an up-and-coming producer who recently caught the attention of Westwood Records’ stalwarts The Funk Hunters. The new single, titled “Reflection Sequence,” crosses between glitch and dub for a wildly unique sound that falls somewhere between experimental and rock music. The track also offers further evidence that Kotek’s playful and extraordinarily diverse style is blurring the line between organic and electronic instrumentation.

As Mlikotic puts it, “For me, music production is the definition of freedom and expression and my only goal is to connect with the community and create something we can all enjoy.”
