CHVRCHES – Never Say Die

The increasingly popular synth-pop trio out of Glasgow, CHVRCHES, has released their latest single, “Never Say Die,” from their third and forthcoming album Love Is Dead, set for release May 25 through Glassnote Records. The album signifies CHVRCHES’ – who formerly demonstrated a strong proclivity for self-production – incipient partnership with preeminent pop producer, Greg Kurstin, who is known for his studio work with icons like Adele and Sia.

“Never Say Die” is a melodic, downtempo synth-pop track – which CHVRCHES singer Lauren Mayberry describes as a “mixture between dark and light.” The song’s dramatic lyrics (“All you need is to play at playing God / And I’m falling in, I’m falling out”), which Mayberry delivers with a luminous and deliberate splendor, radiate over the subdued echoing query, “Didn’t You Say That?” The  momentous, EDM-tinged synth-work shows the group sliding a foot into slightly new depths, while keeping their alt-pop charisma intact.

The track follows album precursors “Get Out” and collaboration with The National’s Matt Berninger, “My Enemy,” both of which exemplify largely unexplored electronic endeavors from CHVRCHES.
