Ross From Friends shares blissful lo-fi house track ‘John Cage’

Lush London lo-fi house producer Ross From Friends has officially signed to Flying LotusBrainfeeder label. Now, the bedroom artist has opened the door to his chilled out productions with a new track “John Cage,” ahead of his EP Aphelion out April 6.

Speaking on the track to Stereogum, the producer, born Felix Weatherall, said the song  “originally began life as a tune for this goofy hip-hop project that me and my pal Guy from back home always do when he’s in London.”

“I’d be making the beat and he raps.,” continued Weatherall. “It’s always a refreshing approach making tracks in that atmosphere because we’re both always on such a spontaneous tip. When I’m making music alone, I’m obsessive and everything takes hours, whereas with Guy, we’d try and get as many tracks finished as possible in like a few hours.”

With a sound that lends itself perfectly to the FlyLo family, Ross From Friends’ feel good vibes wash over his listeners in a state of low-key euphoria and aptly-achieved bliss. It’s a sound that aligns itself immensely with the latest Washed Out album and the lo-fi house movement that’s sweeping the nation. Though this Ross From Friends may not actually have achieved the cultural ubiquity of David Schwimmer, “John Cage” ensures he’s a worthy name to keep an eye on and an ear open for.
