Apple Music reaches 40 million subscriber mark, promotes new VP

Congratulations are in order for Apple.

Apple’s subscription streaming service, Apple Music, recently reached the 40 million subscriber mark, a milestone for the platform that is rumored to be outpacing Spotify in the U.S. Apple Music has notably expanded its subscriber base by five percent each month, making for a three percent differential between Apple Music and Spotify, given Spotify’s comparative monthly growth of two percent.

Apple Music will see a vice presidential shift as veteran Apple executive, Oliver Schusser, ascends to the title of “vice president” of Apple Music and International Content. Schusser will report to Apple’s senior vice president, Eddy Cue. Cue is notable for hiring Schusser 14 years ago. Schusser has previously assisted Apple in its development of the App Store, iTunes movies and TV, iBooks, and Apple Podcasts.

The promotion will require Schusser to relocate from London to California. Schusser will divide his working time between Apple’s Cupertino and Culver City offices.
