Avicii’s family breaks silence with official statement thanking fans and artists for support, tributes & privacy
The unexpected passing of Avicii, born Tim Bergling, has been a tumultuous wave of sadness for the worldwide electronic dance community. After taking personal time away from the media to grieve, the icon’s family has released its first official statement three days after he passed suddenly at the age of 28 in Oman.
“We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother,” it reads. “We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs. Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world.”
As of now, no cause of death has been released, although, authorities in Oman have ruled out “criminal suspicion” and a subsequent report via Billboard has noted that of the two autopsies conducted, nothing was deemed suspicious.
In the few days since the artist’s passing, musicians and fans all over the world have united in tributes, remembrances, and created a space for words of encouragement.
