Exclusive: i_o – Lazers
In the few months since his inaugural release, i_o has swiftly made a name for himself. He made a thrilling debut with “Warning” in December, and has since released an EP on mau5trap, a single on Jauz‘s Bite This, and has been featured on a NEST HQ guest mix.
Following his steady stream of releases, the Los Angeles producer keeps up the momentum with the introduction of “Lazers,” a six-and-a-half-minute journey on Andrew Rayel‘s inHarmony Music. i_o leans into the progressive side of his production for this one, leading the listener on a venture that fuses his industrial techno sound with more euphoric elements.
i_o spends the first two minutes of “Lazers” setting the scene for what is to come. With dreamy synths reminiscent of classic deadmau5, he builds a graceful introduction that leads up to a menacing drop. There, it’s easy to see where the song got its name. “Lazers” explodes with ferocity and dark energy, perfectly intertwining the emotive progressive elements with the heavier techno ingredients he’s become known for.
